An original and influential voice in rock & roll, Graham Parker was one of the most successful singer-songwriters to emerge from England's pub rock scene of the early 1970's. Since his early days with his band the Rumour, he was known for his fusion of rock & roll and confessional folk-rock, highlighted by his passionate vocals, snide witticisms, and gentle insights. Fiesty rock energy mixed with Graham's deep love of American R&B, country, and soul music on his acclaimed albums like Howlin' Wind and Squeezing Out Sparks (1979); he also had a Top 40 hit in the mid-'80s, "Wake Up (Next to You)."
Now residing in America, Graham has become a pithy and increasingly refined singer-songwriter, in concert and on albums like his recent Don't Tell Columbus (2007). While his acerbic side is still evident and the feisty rocker is never too deep below the surface, a kinder, gentler Graham tends to dominate, with richly detailed slice-of-life stories, tales of relationships, and autobiographical tunes like "I Discovered America."
Don't miss the chance to experience Graham in solo performance!
Folk-rocker Jonah Watchman (best known as frontman for The Jonah Kit) opens tonight's show.
