flowery Mexican and Caribbean music makers celebrate Día de las Madres
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $20.50

There's plenty to celebrate tonight when Cascada de Flores returns to the Freight for a sizzling Mother's Day/Dia de las Madres concert! Besides a great chance to take your mama—and your abuelita—out dancing, who could resist the chance to help this great group—plus guest musicians like percussionist Brian Rice and flamenco dancer Virginia Iglesias—raise the roof in honor of their 10th anniversary.

Of course, things always tend to heat up whenever Cascada de Flores takes the stage! With their heavenly vocal harmonies, masterful guitars and flute, and a variety of traditional Mexican instruments like tres cubano, marimbol (related to the African thumb piano), guitarra de son, donkey's jaw bone, zapateado (footwork), cajon, and the indispensable maracas and claves, this quartet has won hearts and set bodies in motion at the Freight in a decade's worth of sold-out and spectacular shows. Veering from whimsical playfulness to delicate beauty to searing emotion, the foursome are masters at putting their own subtle touch on the music, creating a wonderfully lush, intimate atmosphere.

Tonight Arwen Lawrence de Castellanos, Sabra Weber, Jorge Liceaga (who also turns 50 today), and Jorge Mijangos celebrate their first 10 years of "flowery Mexican and Caribbean music making" with the release of 13 Historias, a re-issue of their debut album that includes two new songs.

Happy 10, Cascada! Happy 50, Jorge! Feliz dia de las madres!
