formidable songwriter and versatile multi-instrumentalist . . . former member of the Wailin’ Jennys
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Last seen on the Freight stage a couple years back as a member of the Canadian trio Wailin Jennys, Annabelle Chvostek returns for a solo night of originals. A writer of songs outstanding in their spare, poetic clarity, the Toronto native also brings to the stage a beguiling voice and multi-instrumental prowess. With a sound that melds bluegrass and folk influences and a contemporary urban perspective, Annabelle spotlights poignant tunes about the possibilities for change and redemption from her new CD, Resilience.

Born and raised in a musical family in Toronto, Annabelle made her professional debut with the Canadian Opera Company at the age of seven. She has been performing as a singer-songwriter since the 1990s, with an acclaimed stint with the Wailin' Jennys from 2004 to 2006 (Annabelle's songs, like "Devil's Paintbrush Road," were repeatedly singled out by critics as highlights of the Jennys' Juno-nominated CD, Firecracker.)

Describing her own music, Annabelle says: "I draw from some deep roots: an expansive mix of North American heritage on one side, Slovak/Moravian on the other. I've been sponging up a mad variety of influences throughout my life. They unravel and reformulate into something new as they see fit."
