Ann & Charlie Heymann, Park Stickney, Rudiger Oppermann
Door 7:00 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

From ancient chant and planxties to dance music and ballads, internationally acclaimed performing and recording artists Ann & Charlie Heymann bring the magical sound of the ancient Gaelic harp to modern ears. Playing a replica harp with gold bass strings, Ann and singer/multi-instrumentalist Charlie present a diverse and engaging performance.

A jazz harpist based in New York City, Park Stickney spends much of his time travelling across Europe, Asia and the U.S. as a soloist and teacher, as well as with a variety of ensembles whose music ranges from jazz to classical to rock. His slick technique and maverick style have brought him awards and distinction throughout the world. A highly acclaimed soloist, Park demonstrates the harp's diversity in various genres.

President of the German Folk Harp Society, Rudiger Oppermann is that country's foremost Celtic harp player. Rudiger's custom-made Irish harp, or Clairseach, is strung with 38 gold-plated bronze strings, with a unique mechanism on each string for the use of bending notes. The technical capabilities of this harp combined with Rudiger's virtuosic improvisational free-style transform the Celtic harp into a melodic instrument full of expression and power.

The Festival of Harps is a series of concerts and educational outreach programs which have grown from a San Francisco grassroots movement to an eagerly awaited annual event at major concert halls throughout Northern California. The Festival features the finest harpists from many cultures playing traditional, classical, and original music that encompasses the finest ancient and modern styles, dramatizing the unity of the world's people and cultures through the universal language of music.
