celebrating 30 years of world fusion music
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

What a night! Ancient Future Records celebrates 30 years of world fusion music with a fascinating show spotlighting three new CDs and an expansive vision of a musical world without borders. The triple bill features the groundbreaking world fusion music group Ancient Future, scalloped fretboard guitarist Matthew Montfort, and Mariah Parker's Indo Latin Jazz ensemble.

Seven Serenades for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar is the debut solo recording by Ancient Future leader Matthew Montfort, which showcases his pioneering work on the scalloped fretboard guitar, a special modified instrument able to produce ornaments reminiscent of the sitar.

Composer and multi-instrumentalist Mariah Parker blends the driving rhythmic syncopations of Latin jazz with the entrancing, asymetrical meters of East India on her new CD, Sangria, drawing musical inspiration from Brazil, Cuba, Spain, and India.

Pioneers of the world fusion music movement, Ancient Future, have spent the past few decades embodying the possibilities for musical growth and cultural cross-pollination with an ever-evolving roster of collaborators from far-flung corners of the globe. Tonight they spotlight a remastered version of the CD Planet Passion, with a version of the group that concentrates on Arabic, Indian, and Spanish musical themes.

Performing with both Mariah Parker's Indo Latin Jazz Ensemble and with Ancient Future are Matthew Montfort (scalloped fretboard, flamenco, and fretless guitars), Mariah Parker (piano, santur), Kash Killion (bass, cello, sarangi), and Debopriyo Sarkar (tabla), plus surprise guest artists.
