Join us for a night of fiery fiddling as the Freight helps this year's twelfth edition of the FiddleKids summer camp program kick off on an extra-high note!

An accomplished, versatile musician with a special interest in Appalachian and Celtic fiddle styles, Bobbi Shearn Nikles performs with Wake the Dead, and is a shining star of the Bay Area contra dance circuit. Bobbi is also the founder and director of FiddleKids, the Freight-sponsored week long summer day-camp devoted to exploring traditional fiddle music through tunes, songs, dance, art, and fun.

Liz Carroll is one of the world's leading Celtic fiddlers and composers, and has performed with artists ranging from violinist Yehudi Menuhin to rock musician Don Henley to guitarist John Doyle, with whom she has appeared many times on the Freight stage. Known for her fiery, inventive performances, Liz has contributed many self-penned tunes to the repertoire of Celtic musicians throughout the world and won the National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship award for her great influence on Irish music in America. She's accompanied tonight by Paul Kotapish, known for his mandolin and guitar chops in Kevin Burke's Open House, Wake the Dead, and numerous other West Coast Celtic and old-time groups.

Julian Smedley adds to the mix both his brilliant swing-jazz fiddle and his charming personality. Julian has played with a wide array of artists, from Johnny Mathis and Dan Hicks to his current work with Magnetic Poets, and jazz guitarist Mike Wollenberg, who's joining him for tonight's show.

John Blasquez's fiddling expertise encompasses many styles. He plays bluegrass fiddle, American old-time fiddle, Celtic fiddle (primarily Irish and Scottish dance music), country & western, and swing. A seasoned performer, he has performed with many of the Bay Area's bluegrass bands, most notably Heartland.

Caroline McCaskey smoothly combines classical technique with a driving, dynamic style of fiddling that spans the traditions of Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton, French Canada, and Appalachia. Caroline has also made a name for herself on the contradance circuit throughout California, and was the 2007 winner of the International Musical Saw Association's annual Saw-Off.
