a benefit concert for another Fiddlin' Mama w/ Kaila Flexer, Maria Muldaur, Suzy Thompson, Bobbi Nikles, Irene Sazer, Stairwell Sisters & Misters
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Famed fiddling mothers—and other musical friends—converge for an exciting evening of singing and music making to benefit the family of Briana Waters, a fellow fiddler and mother. The sultry vocals (and fiddle!) of Maria Muldaur, the wide-ranging fiddle skills of Irene Sazer, Kaila Flexer, and Suzy Thompson, and a special "boys included" version of the beloved all-gal old-time outfit Stairwell Sisters join together for a memorable evening of great music. Proceeds will help defray travel costs for Briana's four-year-old daughter to visit her in Connecticut, where she is currently serving a prison sentence.

Although best known for her vocal hits "Midnight At the Oasis" and "Don'tcha Feel My Leg", Maria Muldaur also played the fiddle in an earlier incarnation with the Kweskin Jug Band, and has written several fiddle tunes, including "Love Nuggets & Gravy".

An original member of the Turtle Island String Quartet, leader of the Real Vocal String Quartet, and founder of the Berkeley School of Strings and String Improvisation, Irene Sazer has been educating musicians for mare than 25 years.

Kaila Flexer is a composer, fiddler and music educator. She currently plays Sephardic, Greek, Turkish and original music in the duo Teslim (with Gari Hegedus, oud, saz, lauoto). In addition to Teslim, she has performed with Persian vocalist Hamed Nikpay, Club Foot Orchestra and Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble.

Suzy Thompson is a powerhouse singer, and master of old-time, Cajun, and pre-war blues fiddle styles. Founder of famed roots music bands including Any Old Time, the California Cajun Orchestra, and the Bluegrass Intentions, she recently has been performing with Geoff Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, and with her husband Eric.

In a very special edition of the Bay Area's own fun-loving old-time teardown, tonight Stairwell Sisters Stephanie Prausnitz, Martha Hawthorne, and Sue Sandlin welcome the Misters to join: specifically, Bill Foss and Erik Pearson.

Briana Waters is currently serving a 6-year prison sentence in Danbury, Connecticut, far from her daughter who lives with her father and grandparents near Sacramento. Funds raised from this concert will help to pay travel costs for Briana's daughter to visit her mother. More information about Briana can be found here: www.supportbriana.org
