jazz tinged acoustic folk
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

New York-based singer-songwriter Jen Chapin makes her Freight headliner debut with fine originals powered by the funk and soul of the city. With a focus on the search for community and shared meaning, Jen's "urban folk" features thoughtful, powerfully poetic story songs delivered with a supple voice and ready wit.

Jen has synthesized a musical sensibility based on a wide array of experiences, from her childhood in a Long Island extended family of artists that included her father, the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin and her formal studies at Berklee College of Music to her career as a touring musician and recording artists. She has gained widespread attention for her powerful live performances, including a featured spot on television's Late Nite with Conan O'Brien and opening slots for Bruce Hornsby and the Neville Brothers.

Tonight she spotlights tunes from her third CD, Light of Mine, a timely collection of songs made famous by folks from Stevie Wonder to Radiohead to Joni Mitchell that explore the notions of patriotism and power, and seek to reclaim personal responsibility and expression in fearful times. Jen's deft, politically aware originals add further momentum to the dialogue.
