Join us for a night of fiery fiddling as the Freight helps this year's tenth edition of the FiddleKids summer camp program end on an extra-high note!

An accomplished, versatile musician with a special interest in Appalachian and Celtic fiddle styles, Bobbi Shearn Nikles performs with Wake the Dead, and is a shining star of the Bay Area contra dance circuit. Bobbi is the founder and director of FiddleKids, a week long summer day-camp devoted to exploring traditional fiddle music through tunes, songs, dance, art, and fun. The wonderful Kyle Thayer backs Bobbi (and Laura) with his driving, tasteful DADGAD guitar.

Laura Risk brings us luscious quebecois tunes from her new home in Montreal. Her expressive interpretations of Scottish, Irish, and Cape Breton fiddle music have garnered Laura international acclaim as her love of traditional fiddling leads her on a rich journey into the many genres which she performs with exceptional passion and finesse.

Julian Smedley adds to the mix both his brilliant swing-jazz fiddle and his charming personality. Julian has played with a wide array of artists, from Johnny Mathis and Dan Hicks to his current work with Magnetic Poets, and jazz guitarist Mike Wollenberg, who's joining him for tonight's show.

Julie Egger livens things up still further with her klezmer fiddling. Currently performing with The Red Hot Chachkas and Fogbow Trio, she is also a founder of KlezCalifornia, and received an Artist Grant from Marin Arts Council in 2003. Accompanying Julie tonight is mandolin ace Tony Phillips, also a Red Hot Chachka (and a late-blooming fiddler).

Yet another bright star in this evening's constellation is provided by local clawhammer banjo-playing, clogging songbird, Evie Ladin, who is well known to Freightgoers for her work with all-gal old-time band The Stairwell Sisters and with world music ensemble Keith Terry & Crosspulse.
