An Irish Christmas w/ Teada, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Grainne Hambly & uilleann piper Tommy Martin
Friday, December 7, 2007
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $24.50

Join members of traditional Irish band Teada in celebrating the season at a special Irish Christmas performance! In addition to the lively music of this masterful young band, the program of seasonal Irish culture features vocalist and flutist Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Irish harpist and concertina player Grainne Hambly, and uilleann piper Tommy Martin. An atmospheric journey through some of Ireland's enchanting festive customs, the evening includes the lively rhythms of step dancers Sienna Hickey and Abbey Magill, mingled with the contemporary artistry of the first-class musical lineup.

As heard on their recent release, Inne Amarach, Teada plays stylish, intelligent music, its sense of fun balanced by moments of subtle delicacy. The dynamic playing of acclaimed County Sligo fiddler Oisin Mac Diarmada is backed by guitar from Sean McElwain and the bodhran of Tristan Rosenstock, who also acts as tonight's narrator. Add to this Muireann's beautiful vocals and flute, Tommy's uilleann piping, and Grainne's graceful harp, and the performance is nothing short of irresistible.

Best known for her work with Irish supergroup Danu—recent recipients of the BBC Folk Music Award for Best Band—Muireann is a richly expressive vocalist and an extremely talented flute and whistle player. Singing in Gaelic and English, she enchants her audiences with lilting, lyrical music that has its feet planted firmly in the vibrant West Kerry traditions of wild dance tunes and soulful airs.
