The New Yorker magazine called her a "folk-rock goddess," and the Boston Herald said she is "One of the melodic delights of our age." Ever since Catie Curtis began touring the country in 1995, this Boston-based musician has been gathering critical accolades and a devoted grassroots following with her vivid songwriting, her sweet, soulful voice, her dedication to social issues, and her great onstage energy. Catie returns to the Freight tonight with a knockout set of music from her recent album, Long Night Moon (Compass), a great selection of songs full of wit and compassion, including "People Look Around," which won Catie the Grand Prize in last year's prestigious International Songwriting Competition.

Catie's special guest, New York-based singer-songwriter, Rachel Garlin, performs a set of her distinctive story songs and eloquent character portraits. The former Berkeley resident has released three CDs in the past six years, including a live album recorded at the Freight. Rachel's songs and performances throughout the country have gained her national recognition as one of the leading new voices in contemporary folk.
