traditional folk music from Veracruz
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Come on a lush musical journey through Latin America with one of the region's premier interpreters of traditional music, Tlen-Huicani. With director Alberto de la Rosa Sanchez' beautiful, evocative harpa jarocha (folk harp) as its centerpiece, the five-member ensemble also features guitars, guitarron, percussion—and, of course, rich, powerful vocals (Tlen-Huicani means "the singers" in the indigenous Nahuatl language).

Founded three decades ago, Tlen-Huicani specializes in the traditional music of their home state of Veracruz in eastern Mexico, including the festive huapango and son jarocho styles, as well as folkloric music from other parts of Mexico, Paraguay, Chile, and Venezuela. The quintet was recently named Best Folk Music Group in Mexico by the Mexican Union of Music and Theater Critics for its exceptional work keeping the country's traditional music alive in performances around the world and on fine recordings like Veracruz: Son y Huapango.
