haunting vocals, poetic imagery
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

Tennessee-born Martha Scanlan casts a soulful, rootsy spell with her haunting, earthy vocal style and her memorable songs that combine deep roots, striking imagery, and spiritual transcendence. Known to many from the Cold Mountain soundtrack and Great High Mountain Tour that followed the film, and from her former role as the vocalist and poetic songwriter for the innovative old-time string band, Reeltime Travelers, Martha is a truly striking performer.

Martha's songwriting first gained national attention in 2003 at the prestigious Merlefest Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, where she was awarded first and second place in the bluegrass and country music categories (respectively) for "Little Bird of Heaven" and "Hallelujah." She'll surely be singing those tunes for us tonight, as well as traditional and original songs from her new CD, The West Was Burning (Sugar Hill).

Rose Sinclair (banjo, steel guitar) and Travis Stuart (fiddle, bass) will accompany Martha.
