Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem
Thursday, July 12, 2007
neo-traditional folksters
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Superb musicianship, wicked grooves, seamless four-part harmonies, and great heapin' buckets of soul are the tasty ingredients for the acoustic brew served up by Rani Arbo, former lead singer and freewheeling fiddler for New England roots band, Salamander Crossing. Tonight, Rani and company return after a too-long absence to celebrate the release of a new album, Big Old Life (Signature Sounds), a bracing, delightful mix that dips into 200 years of American music, spanning country, blues, oldtime, vintage swing, and sparkling originals.

Daisy Mayhem features Andrew Kinsey on bass, banjo, and ukulele, along with Anand Nayak on guitar and Scott Kessel on extremely unique percussion. In the hands of these four superlative musicians, the wide-ranging material takes on new life, and even the oldest Appalachian ballad speaks in fresh and contemporary ways.

Whether you settle on calling them a neo old-timey outfit, an agnostic gospel band, or a mini music festival, Rani and Daisy Mayhem are definitely an act not to be missed!
