CLASSICAL AT THE FREIGHT, hosted by San Francisco Chamber Orchestra music director Benjamin Simon, brings the Bay Area’s best classical musicians to our stage for an hour of top-flight chamber music in an informal, friendly atmosphere. The New Esterhazy String Quartet, named in honor of the Hungarian estate where Haydn spent much of his creative life, features violinists Kati Kyme and Lisa Weiss, violist Anthony Martin, and cellist William Skeen, all well-known to Bay Area chamber and early music aficionados. To commemorate the upcoming 200th anniversary of Haydn’s death (in 2009), the quartet will perform all of Haydn’s 68 quartets in numerous concerts over the next two years. At their Freight performance, the NESQ will play and discuss three such works—Op. 1, No. 1, Op. 42, and Op. 103.
