Bass guitar aficionados will find themselves inexorably drawn to the Freight tonight as we showcase four of the instrument's outstanding exponents in a wide-ranging evening of solo sets featuring boundary-pushing original compositions, jazz standards, video game music, and bass arrangements of Bach.

Grammy-nominated bassist, composer, and two-time winner of Bass Player magazine's Player of the Year award, Michael Manring will headline the evening with a set of his ground-breaking original compositions, improvisations, and ingenious transcriptions. One of the world's leading solo bassist, Michael weaves together numerous musical influences into a tapestry rich with expression, virtuosic technique, and joy.

An accomplished extended-range bass player with a style that mixes intense tapping, slapping and fingerstyle techniques, Jean Baudin is known for his work with the famed metal band, Nuclear Rabbit. Tonight he performs original compositions and improvisations on his 11-string bass.

First place winner of the 2005 Bass Extremes International Solo Bass Competition, Jeff Schmidt will perform his contest-winning original compositions, jazz standards and improvisations.

A two-decade veteran of the bass, Dave Grossman's set tonight spotlights original compositions and a 7-string bass arrangement of Sonata No. 1 in G minor for Solo Violin by J.S. Bach.
