Swing jazz with a western flavor from Hot Club of Cowtown founders
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

With a change of name and a brand-new self-titled CD, Elana James (formerly Fremerman) makes a triumphant return to the Freight. Folks who remember Elana fondly for her years with the hot jazz/western swing trio Hot Club of Cowtown will be overjoyed to hear that she is joined tonight by Hot Club co-founder and guitarist Whit Smith, plus upright bass ace Beau Sample. With the spotlight on her new album, the trio offers a tasty combination of classic string jazz, western swing standards, and sultry Elana originals.

One of the youngest musicians ever to be inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame, Austin resident Elana knocks audiences dead with her supple, energetic fiddle playing, smoky vocals, and winsome stage presence. She spent the better part of 2005 as a featured member of Bob Dylan's touring band, as well as opening for his 2006 summer U.S. tour with her trio, Elana James & The Continental Two.

Lucky for us, she's back on the road this year with her own irresistible brand of "hot jazzy fiddle for the 21st Century!"
