inspired 'cajun music ensemble
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

Whether their name refers to the rarity of their appearances or the celebratory nature of their shows, one thing's for sure: an Aux Cajunal performance is always an invitation to good times! Two true veterans of American roots music, Eric and Suzy Thompson, are joined by a prime list of musical cohorts to regale us with old-time Cajun and Creole dance music with heart, soul, and gusto. Eric and Suzy always offer a deep, rich repertoire, including material both contemporary and archaic, spanning selections from Suzy's collection of super-rare 78s and material learned directly from Cajun and Creole master musicians like Dewey Balfa, Danny Poullard, and Dennis McGee.

Front and center are Suzy's sizzling accordion and fiddle playing and powerful vocals and Eric's bluesy lead guitar and agile fiddling. Add to the mix fiddler Agi Ban, Alan Senauke on guitar, Mayne Smith on pedal steel and dobro, Steven Strauss on upright bass, and drummer John Hanes, and you get a sound that's eloquent, hard-driving, and most of all, a whole lot of fun. Enjoyable as it is to soak up the rich textures of the instruments and the emotion-drenched French vocals, it can be very hard to sit still and listen to this infectious music! Better bring along your dancing shoes, just in case...
